January 2025: Full moon in Cancer
Tarot spread, astro-tarot forecast, and journaling questionsfor this full moon.
Hello loves,
Wish you a very happy new year! I hope you had a beautiful holiday season with your loved ones, and had some time to relax and unwind before the turn of the calendar year.
Before we get into the full moon forecast, I want to highlight some changes to the full moon write-ups. I’m doing away with the Sabian Symbols for both the full and new moons. I enjoyed exploring them and learning more about them, but I feel like it’s time to try something new.
I’m very excited to introduce you to the WomanRunes. Every full moon, I will draw a WomanRune for us as a theme, a learning, a focus point for the days until the next full moon rolls around. I’ve been working with the WomanRunes since around 5 years, and it’s a very meaningful part of my full moon practice. I’m really excited to share these runes and reflections with you.
I will choose a herb for us every New Moon, based on the astrology around the moon, using the Herbal Astrology Oracle. This is a relatively new part of my practice — I did it all of last year and quite enjoyed it. I’ll include a bit about the herbal lore, the main teaching, and some general suggestions for how you can use the herb along with the New Moon write-up.
Now, let’s get into the forecast for this full moon!
The January 2025 full moon falls in the sign of Cancer. The Cancer archetype is emotional, intuitive, nurturing and healing. It knows that love and forgiveness, where possible, are the best way to respond to destructive behavior – along with firm boundaries, of course.
This full moon in Cancer can also usher in a new cycle of change, encouraging us to release old patterns, blocks, and goals that may be going nowhere. This energy is further amplified by the astrology around this time.
The lunar nodes changed signs on 11 January, when the North Node moved into dreamy Pisces and the South Node moved into meticulous Virgo. The North Node represents the direction in which we are heading, and represents a new area of consciousness, growth, and evolution. The South Node points to where we are coming from, the starting point of our journey, the roots, foundation, and things that are comfortable for us.
This particular change in the lunar nodes can inspire us to dream bigger dreams and imagine a better future for ourselves and the planet, and it can also encourage utopian fantasies {something to be cautious about}. The more Virgo traits of being detail oriented and meticulous in our planning can help to temper some of Pisces’ more dreamy energy.
To throw some more light on the January full moon astrology, let’s take a look at the astro-tarot influences of this lunation. The Cancer full moon falls in decan 3, which is represented by the Four of Cups. This is to be interpreted in conjunction with The Chariot, which is associated with Cancer.
You’ll find the full astro-tarot forecast, tarot spread, journal prompts, and a WomanRunes reading for this full moon on the website.
GATHER THE WITCHES!
We had our first few calls for Moonshine 2025 earlier this month — and Oh. My. Word. What a beautiful group we have this year — there are a lot of newcomers this year, along with some of us who have been returning year after year. If you’re feeling the call to join us in circle, come! There is space for you here.
Moonshine is a year long journey into the realm of moon-based art witchery in all its glorious forms that's part virtual coven, part group coaching, part empowerment community, and part mixed media art adventure.
It’s also a gathering of art witches, some of whom have been in the program since its inception in this format seven years ago, who cycle together moon by moon.
Moonshine is a village. It’s a virtual clearing in the woods where we stoke up the fire and share the tea. It’s a festival wrapped in an academy. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before!
And I have the sneaky suspicion that we are going to need this kind of brave and empowering space over the course of the year to come, for reasons that I suspect we all know and understand.
The best part? Effy is committed to making this as accessible as possible, and has slashed the price by half this year, from $360 to $180! A payment plan is also available.
If you’ve been on the fence about this class, or if the pricing has held you back, this is your sign to jump on in — I doubt that it will ever be offered at this price again.
I hope to see you in our little coven!
